looking at skin concerns, it appears that overall, both men and women are

high in sugar, lacking nutrients and full of processed foods, can lead to a
host of adverse health issues, including heart disease, weight gain and skin
problems. Yet, as a nation, we are consuming more sugar and processed foods
than ever before. The World Health Organisation has stated that people should
aim to get just 5% of their daily calories from sugary goods. However, the
average is 12.3% for adults under 65 according to the national diet and
nutrition survey (NDNS). Sugar can trigger a spike in blood sugar levels. This
increases levels of insulin that can cause skin problems such as acne and
rosacea. In fact, an overview of research carried out over the past 50 years
has found that eating foods with a high glycaemic index (GI) not only
aggravated acne, but in some cases triggered it too. (Acne: The Role of Medical
Nutritional Therapy – Journal of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics)<o:p></o:p></span></div>

survey carried out by AXA Insurance of 4000 people found that 4 out of 5 adults
feel stressed during a typical week, while almost 1 in 10 were stressed all the
time. There is now a greater understanding of the link between stress and
adverse effects on skin health. For example, stress hormones trigger
overproduction of sebum that can create or worsen acne. Raised levels of stress
hormones promote the loss of water from the skin (Transepidermal Water Loss –
TEWL) resulting in dry and dull skin. And hormonal imbalances such as PMS,
pregnancy, puberty and menopause equally cause havoc to the skin.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="color: #404040; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">In a stressed state our
bodies produce <b>steroid hormones and adrenalin</b> which make the skin’s capillaries
dilate (Vasodilation) which can lead to broken capillaries (otherwise known as
Telangiectasia) with constant dilation and constriction, oedema or puffiness in
the tissues and extreme sensitisation. This is called the inflammation cascade.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: #404040; font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">This same cascade
mechanism causes androgenic hormones to be produced which cause spots and
breakouts. As the androgen hormones have a link with our sebaceous glands in
the skin and start to produce too much sebum. In women, this will often show as
breakouts around the lower jawline.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

causes our bodies to be in a state of fight or flight and when the adrenalin “on” button is permanently switched on, this is exhausting and adds to the
fatigue and sluggishness we see in stressed skin. Adrenalin puts us on a high
state of alert and our sensory nerve endings become over stimulated leading to
the over reactive, sensitized and possible inflamed skins we see when clients
are experiencing stress and lack of sleep.<o:p></o:p></span><br />

which can have other causes, but in stress/sleep deprivation case, it is
because the skin’s blood circulation has become sluggish so the blood flow in
the particularly immobile area under the eye comes to a virtual standstill and
the dark pigment in the deoxygenated blood, called Bilirubin, leaks from the
capillaries and into the surrounding tissue space. Plus, the under-eye skin is
much thinner, so this condition is very visible.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

are chemical messengers that send messages to the cells that they interact
with. They can affect several processes in the body including growth,
reproduction and metabolism. Hormones can also influence the immune system as
well as our mood, causing changes in behaviour. Unsurprisingly, during the
average life journey, numerous hormonal changes can reflect in various ways on
our skin’s appearance and condition. For example, skin conditions commonly
associated with puberty includes acne, while dryness, loss of collagen and
elasticity, reduced volume are noted during menopause and surprisingly skin
that suffers from breakouts is also common. The bad news is that, as we age
these skin changes are inevitable. The good news is that by understanding why
and what steps to take, each of us can stay in control.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

acne can start at any age, hormonal changes during puberty may trigger acne
flare ups. According to the British Skin Foundation, acne affects around 80% of
adolescents aged 13-18 years. Why is this? During puberty, hormones that
promote natural development, will raise testosterone levels in boys and girls.
A side effect of this can be the overproduction of sebum which in turn can
cause acne. Stress is also a contributory factor. Exams, social pressures and
dealing with puberty itself can lead to a rise in the adrenal hormones, again
causing the sebaceous glands to overproduce sebum.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

know that from 26’ish women will see a different type of hormonal acne—deep,
cystic bumps in the chin and jawline area and products won't work as well on
these hormonal breakouts? Other female-only hormonal changes include pregnancy,
the contraceptive pill and PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). Many women
experience acne or skin breakouts just before ‘that time of the month’ as when
hormonal levels fluctuate this in turn, stimulates the sebaceous glands. The
contraceptive pill, that contains artificial hormones oestrogen and
progesterone, may cause photo-sensitivity in some women and result in pigmentation.
The onset of pregnancy, is another trigger for hormonal changes that may lead
to pigmentation and sometimes acne. Managing skin concerns, whilst pregnant can
be very difficult as some treatments/remedies may have to be avoided.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

lead up to the menopause can be a tricky time. Perimenopause is the phase
before menopause actually takes place and normally lasts between 3 – 4 years.
During this phase, hormone production begins to decline and fluctuate.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

oestrogen levels mean skin becomes thinner with more pronounced wrinkles such
as those on the upper lip. Loss of collagen and elastin combined with reduced
volume (subcutaneous fat) and bone shrinkage results in loss of structural
integrity and the face literally sliding south. The severity of these symptoms
will depend on UV exposure from childhood, genetics, lifestyle as well as
medication which will each have an impact on the quality of skin.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

hormones that help regulate the sebaceous glands, such as oestrogen also start
to decline, leading to stubborn breakouts or acne in some women. This is
further aggravated by the slowing-down of the skins cell renewal process in
more mature skin. As excess skin cells build up, blocked pores already clogged
with sebum, are further irritated causing inflammation.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

menopause usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age. It follows the
perimenopause stage and is when menstrual periods stop and fertility ends.
Menopause symptoms include hot flushes, insomnia, and weight gain, loss of sex
drive, mood swings, depression and changes to the appearance of the skin. A
rather irritating symptom is also unwanted facial hair. Some women often find
hairs appearing on their chin or jaw line, which is caused by a drop in oestrogen
and rise in testosterone levels. It is also during this time that women may opt
for treatment to relieve some of the many symptoms of the menopause such as

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">The new year is finally here;
I hope you have all had a great Christmas and New Years and enjoyed the
fantastic food and drink that comes along with it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">However, the seasonal
celebrations can often leave us feeling jaded and overindulged. So it is no
surprise that the word Detox can sound appealing, especially with big companies
pushing a plethora of Detox practices such as fasts and crash diets. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">These can be detrimental to your
fitness as the majority are extremely low calorie and primarily liquids, in
turn, these type of diets can cause severe health risks such as vitamin deficiencies,
muscle breakdown, irritability and headaches. Depriving your body of these
essential vitamins and minerals can be bad news for your body, and can often
cause more harm than good. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Ok, I know what you are
thinking, ‘So what should I do instead?’ Well if you keep an eye on my social
media this month I will be posting some top tips on how to stay healthy this
year, such as keeping active and introducing a digital detox. You may also want
to have a look at some of the holistic treatments I have on offer at the salon.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">What I
hope you take away from my no-tox tips, is that there is no need to go to
extremes and deprive your body in the pursuit of weight loss, instead simple
lifestyle adjustments and taking time to show your mind and body some love can
make all the difference! Have a happy, healthy January and let me know if you
try any of my ditch the detox tips.</span></span></div>

I’ve had a bit too much to drink and now my skin is suffering!!Whilst many of us just enjoy the occasional social drink throughout the year, Christmas with all the parties and extra celebrations that take place, often mean that alcohol consumption increases and quite dramatically. <br />
<br />
So why does alcohol have such a bad effect on our skin? <br />
<br />
Alcohol is a major cause of <a href="http://gingertreebeauty.blogspot.co.uk/2017/12/why-do-we-need-antioxidants.html" target="_blank">free radical formation</a>, vascular damage (i.e. broken capillaries and redness), dehydration and premature ageing. But why? <br />
<ul>
<li>Alcohol is toxic to the body and puts a strain on liver function (one function is to detoxify the body overnight) which can cause the skin to look sallow or even yellow</li>
<li>Toxins in the body affect the immunology of the skin and its general metabolism is impaired</li>
<li>This toxicity also causes inflammation which then increases free radical formation</li>
<li>Alcohol is highly dehydrating which compromises the protective barrier on the surface of our skin, one result is the skin doesn’t naturally exfoliate, or desquamate to use the technical term, giving matt, dull, flaky, rough, grey colour and accentuating fine lines all over the skin’s surface. </li>
<li>The loss of the protective barrier also leads to increased sensitivity and reactivity in the skin</li>
<li>Which also contributes to the creation of vaso-dilation damage on the skin, as the surface blood vessels expand with alcohol leading to broken capillaries, particularly on the cheeks and nose area</li>
<li>There is a known link between alcohol consumption and the development of acne rosacea, a persistent and difficult condition to treat and distressing to the individual</li>
<li>A general blemished appearance and the skin will look puffy due to the tissue fluid leakage from dilated blood vessels</li>
<li>Skin will be more photo sensitive, leaving the skin even more susceptible to UV Light damage, creating irregular pigmentation</li>
<li>In general, the skin will be more easily irritated with permanent or fluctuating diffused redness</li>
<li>Alcohol is a diuretic, so not only does it force more water out of the body, it also makes it difficult to rehydrate because alcohol hinders the production of the hormone Vasopressin and that’s the hormone that helps to reabsorb water</li>
<li>It decreases the single most important Vitamin to the skin and super antioxidant – Vitamin A. Vitamin A is key for cell renewal and cell turnover. This is where we get our glowing skin from. A lack of Vitamin A means it’s harder to protect yourself from free radicals.</li>
<li>The presence of sugar and salt in drink triggers the hormone IGF-1 which causes an over production of oil, again affecting the balance of the skin’s protective barrier</li>
<li>Sugar leads to inflammation</li>
<li>Salt leads to bloating and undereye bags</li>
</ul>
OK, doesn’t sound good does it? But, occasional excess is quickly repaired by rehydrating yourself. <br />
So let’s think about how to minimise these and other effects during the party season……..<br />
<ul>
<li>Increase hydration levels by drinking water in between glasses of alcohol, so reducing the alcohol consumption and helping to offset the dehydrating quality of alcohol</li>
<li>Eat while you drink as food will slow down the release of sugar</li>
<li>Low intensity exercise can help clear the head after a party</li>
<li>Walnuts are high in antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids. Antioxidants neutralise free radical damage caused by alcohol</li>
<li>Eating Avocados which are high in dietary fibre and good cholesterol, help to keep liver damage at bay</li>
<li>A supercharged apple and banana smoothie is classed a heart helper in a glass according to Men’s Health magazine and eating Tuna due to Vitamin D will help boost testosterone – alcohol does not improve your sex life!</li>
<li>Drink wine, spritzers rather than hard spirits and avoid sugar laden mixers, use soda water or tonic instead. Red wine does contain antioxidants in called Polyphenols</li>
<li>Dr Perricone suggests the following post indulgence routine;</li>
<ul>
<li>10-12 ounces glass of water</li>
<li>1000 mg of Vitamin C</li>
<li>1200 mg of n-acetyl cysteine, an amino acid</li>
<li>100 mg of alpha lipoic acid, an antioxidant</li>
<li>1000 mg glutamine, an amino acid</li>
<li>500 mg of pantothenic acid, a B-complex capsule</li>
</ul>
<li>At Ginger Tree we stock the Advanced Nutrition Programme and would recommend Skin Vit C Plus, Skin Complete (Vit A & Antioxidants) and Glutamine</li>
<li>Lastly, there is a homeopathic remedy called Nux-V and as a post party first aid rescue, a low dose can help clear the head and nausea. Available from <a href="https://www.helios.co.uk/" target="_blank">Helios Homeopathic Pharmacy.</a></li>
</ul>
So you know what happens to your skin and you’ve got some tips to help you through the season…..everything in moderation.<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hello fans of real organic skincare, I’d just like to remind you that during a Pinks Facial we often use the Rose Clay and Rosehip Mask. Many of you already have a home routine using Pink Boutique, but I’m sure this is going to be another great addition to your home skincare.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
For those of you who are unsure as to what makes this mask that little bit different, the Rose Clay and Rosehip Mask is a delicate moisturising mask for normal to dry and sensitive skin. It is a gentle, non-setting mask, handmade with sun dried rose clay from France. Having tried the mask myself, I am pleased to say it leaves the skin with a real glow, and I loved how healthy my skin looked afterwards.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The mask is great for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and is easily applied with your fingers. It also has some lovely ingredients, such as Shea Butter and Sunflower seed oil, that helps to leave your skin soft, smoothed and plumped. It is also multipurpose as you can use it as a balm to treat your lips when it gets nippy this winter.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If you’re interested in the Rose Clay mask, or any of the other Pink Boutique products, they are all available from <a href="http://www.gingertreebeauty.co.uk/shop/">my online shop</a>. Or, you could give me a call if you have any questions about the products. I’m always happy to help!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11pt;">We hear the
word Antioxidants a lot these day, but what exactly are Antioxidants and why do
we need them?</span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">An
Antioxidant stops Oxidation. Some examples from every day of oxidation are when
a freshly cut apple or avocado turns brown, a nail becomes rusty or a copper
statue turns green. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Oxidation
has created damage, by the formation of free radicals. Free radicals are public enemy number 1 to the
skin! The technical name for free
radicals is Reactive Oxygen Species – sounds even worse doesn’t it!! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The vast
majority of skin damage, dysfunction, disease and premature ageing is caused by
the activity of free radicals. Free radicals are unstable atoms and need to be stopped
in their tracks to limit their damage to healthy functioning cells.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;"></span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvxQ0IHAc24DpnvCbHf1B01hZIWh0ifpMkK-A4NBUd7GAaQemiLAsDRGxUbPUOUUHcg_ShNIdYVjwa8PycYsRIcRejlvMDkjkkNdW5Ll1c9hPDfM8OHgYKk3aIHRwNSCM7kO2FflM3y4g/s1600/Skin+Antioxidant+Spill.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1256" data-original-width="1600" height="155" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvxQ0IHAc24DpnvCbHf1B01hZIWh0ifpMkK-A4NBUd7GAaQemiLAsDRGxUbPUOUUHcg_ShNIdYVjwa8PycYsRIcRejlvMDkjkkNdW5Ll1c9hPDfM8OHgYKk3aIHRwNSCM7kO2FflM3y4g/s200/Skin+Antioxidant+Spill.jpg" width="200" /></a><span style="font-size: 11pt;">How does a
free radical develop? A healthy oxygen
atom becomes a free radical atom, when the healthy atom is agitated by an
adverse energy source e.g. UV light, inflammation caused by pollution or
stress. The agitated atom throws off one of its electrons to try and release
the unwanted energy. So, the previously healthy atom is now missing an electron
and gets even more agitated, the lost electron goes in search of another atom
to join up to, that other atom in turn now has too many electrons and becomes
agitated and throws off an electron and so on creating a chain reaction leading
to Oxidative Stress and the oxygen molecules are now disfigured and cannot
function properly.</span></span></div>
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Free
radicals invade body cells, breaking through the membrane, negatively affecting
the structures and function of the cell and deprive it of oxygen. If these free
radicals damage the nucleus (“heart of the cell”), irregular cell reproduction
will occur leading to irregular dysfunction in the skin, premature ageing and
disorders and diseases of the skin, and if the DNA is changed, then cancerous
change will occur. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Free radical
damage to the skin occurs from exposure to UV light, pollution, stress,
excessive exercise, poor diet, smoking, infra-red, x ray, alcohol, medication,
inflammation, for example.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">So, we need
to neutralise the free radicals. All sounds very Star Trek! But it is of vital
importance to our health. Because Oxidative Stress doesn’t just apply to our
skin – but to all cells within the body. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Antioxidants
neutralise free radicals. How do they do that?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: left;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz-NGccET-Hhyq153w7hXIv3YaWgcJwzHiQ5y9Xn7Ss2NKqCxFYv_rUfIb3jDRVabjFW-SciNIFMy8uQ0kwiGiby5DbAX4g_JJX1d6k970Sl_fquHtb_1mufItjheJFk0GMdcJIokIGys/s1600/Skin_Antioxidant+lifestyle.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz-NGccET-Hhyq153w7hXIv3YaWgcJwzHiQ5y9Xn7Ss2NKqCxFYv_rUfIb3jDRVabjFW-SciNIFMy8uQ0kwiGiby5DbAX4g_JJX1d6k970Sl_fquHtb_1mufItjheJFk0GMdcJIokIGys/s200/Skin_Antioxidant+lifestyle.jpg" width="200" /></a><span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">An
antioxidant will donate an electron without becoming a free radical
itself. Humans can’t manufacture
antioxidants, we depend on their consumption through fruit and vegetables. Many would say that it is difficult to obtain
sufficient antioxidants these days as intensive farming and increased
urbanisation has depleted our soil, while a more stressed society and processed
foods depletes our digestive system’s capability. Therefore, we are can’t provide our body with
the essential nutrition required to counteract free radical activity. So this means we also need to think about supplementation. And that’s a whole topic in itself. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">We can also
increase our Antioxidant usage by topical application to the skin. This is why
you will see many products stating the word Antioxidant on the label. The
quality of the antioxidant ingredients, their molecular size and therefore
ability to be used by the skin’s cells all affect the efficacy of a topical
product. And there are many sources of antioxidants so a product with a broad
range of Antioxidants is best. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div style="text-align: justify;">

interesting fact is that whilst the use of SPF on a daily basis is vital,
research is showing that the addition of antioxidants is even more effective
than sunscreen alone, when protecting the skin from cancer. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Well by now,
I hope you can see that Antioxidants are our natural protectors and vital to
our overall health and healthy skin. So, here’s a few tips: </span></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li>Base your diet on whole foods in forms of fresh fruit
and vegetables and good quality proteins. </li>
<li>Minimise and ideally eliminate processed foods.</li>
<li>Keep hydrated. The body and skin cells need water to
do their work.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">Key nutrients in your diet that help support high antioxidant
activity are:</span><br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Turmeric - containing the active
ingredient curcumin. This spice is known, improving cognition and reducing
the signs of ageing.</li>
<li>Vitamin C - improves immune cell function
(neutrophils & lymphocytes), reduces tiredness and fatigue, acting as
a co factor for iron absorption and supports collagen formation.</li>
<li>Vitamin D - appears to enhance immunity and
inhibits the development of autoimmunity where the body turns on itself and
destroys healthy tissue.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 11.0pt; line-height: 115%; mso-bidi-font-size: 10.0pt;">Take a look at your skincare. Is it giving your enough of the
essential vitamins (A, C, D, E) needed for healthy skin?<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
As a Bronze IIAA Salon, I’ve had an exclusive preview of the brand new Environ Electro-Sonic DF Mobile Skincare Device.
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I know many of you have seen real change in your skin since using Environ homecare and having in-salon treatments, so I think you are going to love being able to maintain the effects at home with this new device!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The new device is a handheld version of the sonophoresis and iontophoresis treatment I have on offer in the salon. You will love the convenience of supporting your facials at home with Environ’s latest innovation in beauty technology.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The product’s main launch is on February 1st, so it could make a great late Christmas treat or Valentines gift for yourself or a loved one. We are taking Pre-orders with a £30.00 deposit as we know on release this device will sell out fast.</div>

Confession time, my name is Scarlett, and I am a fake-tan-aholic. In my battle against my pale skin I have tried countless fake tan products, from spray on mist tans to mousses and everything in between! I have tried both cheap and high-end products in my quest for the perfect natural looking glow and had my fair share of tan disasters along the way…<br />
<br />
It was last year that Kathy first introduced me to the Jane Iredale fake tan, Tantasia. I have to admit, I was sceptical that a product with all-natural ingredients would be able to give me the colour I craved (I like to look like I have a tan rather than a subtle glow!) but I decided to give it a try.<br />
<br />
I initially tried applying this tan with gloves but soon found the silky formula applied more evenly using my tanning mit. As I worked the product into my skin it deposited a guide colour that was a beautiful golden shade and very different from some of the very obvious fake tan shades I have been used to! Infact the colour was so gorgeous that after allowing it a few minutes to dry I was able to get dressed and show off my new glow. The guide colour meant I didn’t miss any bits too and have tell tale signs that my tan was fake!<br />
<br />
What I also noticed immediately about Tantasia was the scent. If you have used fake tan products before you will know that no matter how they try and disguise the developing scent there is an unmistakable aroma of biscuits as your tan develops, but not with Tantasia. Tantasia has a beautiful fruity scent that is completely different from any fake tan I have ever used, and best of all it didn’t change through the day.<br />
<br />
After allowing the Tantasia a full 8 hour development time I showered and removed the guide colour. My final tan was a beautiful natural shade that made me look as though I had just returned from a fortnight somewhere tropical!<br />
<br />
If you are looking for a fake tan product that gives you an even sun kissed look then this is the product you have been looking for. The natural ingredients also leave your skin feeling beautifully smooth and moisturised which I’m sure was the reason the tan lasted so long.Kathy Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10676609834615714720noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706489420822036015.post-21299389378607778842017-07-27T13:45:00.001+01:002017-07-27T13:45:24.817+01:00The Ginger Tree Guide to Beach Ready Pins!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It’s that time again ladies where we are all preparing to slip into a swimsuit and show off our legs on the beach. Now I’m not sure about you, but the thought of this in the past would leave me in a cold sweat and panic, but that was until I developed my own regime for beach ready pins!<br />
<h2>
Step One</h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAjMb8uTOoPVZVSdV9U8PAounEaPk2cX1xZsgSwE15hE462XS2aR4vrvJUSEBs7J9GDKWM1jbWvHofvIJstFB8AOVtW5x1rZRiY74gS3VuagSEQa8jBK1mzgke085ZhybgOfrpc_oXbW4/s1600/xLemongrass_Mandarin_Body_Lotion_1024x1024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1024" data-original-width="1024" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAjMb8uTOoPVZVSdV9U8PAounEaPk2cX1xZsgSwE15hE462XS2aR4vrvJUSEBs7J9GDKWM1jbWvHofvIJstFB8AOVtW5x1rZRiY74gS3VuagSEQa8jBK1mzgke085ZhybgOfrpc_oXbW4/s200/xLemongrass_Mandarin_Body_Lotion_1024x1024.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
It’s all about the preparation, a few weeks before I hop on a flight I make sure to up my moisturisation and exfoliating regime. This means not only does my skin feel smoother and more supple (top tip, rub the lotion in circular upwards motions and this can really help improve the appearance of stubborn cellulite) but also means for step two, waxing, the hairs are far easier to remove. My top product to use for an intense pre-holiday burst of moisture is Pinks Boutique Lemongrass & Mandarin Body Lotion. The pump bottle makes this perfect for slipping into your suitcase too and not running the risk of product escaping all over your toiletries! For a deep exfoliation you can’t beat the Pinks Boutique Sweet Orange & Neroli Body Salt Scrub, the smell alone will have you longing for the beach!<br />
<h2>
Step Two</h2>
One week before my holiday is when I time my waxes, this means that any slight redness or post wax tenderness has passed and I am still enjoying that gorgeous silky smooth just-waxed feeling! I use very high quality waxes that are less aggressive to the skin and don’t strip away your skins natural moisture and the Perron Rigot hot wax is a whizz at removing even the most stubborn of hairs. Plus all pre and post waxing products are Soil Association registered organic, that really protect and nurture your skin. Now I’m ready for step three…<br />
<h2>
Step Three</h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibSFRlXyDkFOZssKjpwdPqGoKNQLDsEWjdIjhzgUAXYk1eXtRew_cgIjGklubX5vBiiZScTHrAb7GeL5_l2va9GE_AH6SZl7qhbnH_LF5jRa7KQOTvA_qmp9Fn5YQZZPkkkk5PHMPahrs/s1600/586.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="480" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibSFRlXyDkFOZssKjpwdPqGoKNQLDsEWjdIjhzgUAXYk1eXtRew_cgIjGklubX5vBiiZScTHrAb7GeL5_l2va9GE_AH6SZl7qhbnH_LF5jRa7KQOTvA_qmp9Fn5YQZZPkkkk5PHMPahrs/s200/586.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
Step three for me is always applying a light layer of the beautiful Jane Iredale Tantasia. This is by far the best fake tan product I have ever used, and for all you porcelain skinned beauties (like me!) it builds to just the right level of natural colour. This is holiday skin in a bottle! Like the Pinks Boutique products this is also wonderfully moisturising (something that can’t be said of all fake tans that are notorious for leaving your skin feeling dry and patchy!) and smells divine. The fruity scent is a breath of fresh air when compared to the typical ‘biscuit’ smell that is true of so many fake tan products on the market.<br />
<br />
<h2>
Step Four</h2>
This final step is the most important holiday skin step of all and one that I can’t reiterate enough, and that is to arm yourself with a high quality, physical, not chemical SPF sun cream. My go to product is AlumierMD Sheer Hydration broad spectrum SPF 40 (tinted or untainted) or Clear Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 42 for oily skins. Both are light weight and easy to apply.<br />
So there you have it, four very simple to follow steps that will have you slipping out of your sarong and bearing your pins like the goddess you are!Kathy Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10676609834615714720noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706489420822036015.post-73484811822872658122017-06-20T08:36:00.001+01:002017-06-20T08:36:42.958+01:00#100DayReset programmeI am excited to announce that I am taking part in the revolutionary #100DayReset programme which has been launched by the International Institute for Anti Aging (IIAA) who distribute the Advanced Nutrition Supplements (Feed), Environ Skincare (Fortify) and Jane Iredale Make up (Finish) products.<br />

This is a question my clients often ask me and there are a number of reasons why I would always recommend double cleansing as part of your skincare routine.<br />
<br />
One reason that double cleansing is so important is that if you don’t clean your face properly everything else you do as part of your skincare routine will suffer. This is literally the single most important stage in your routine, so take some time to do this properly and your skin will thank you! It also means when you apply your moisturisers and serums your skin is makeup free and they can work their magic!<br />

So how do you double cleanse
and when is it best to do this? The best time to double cleanse is in the
evening and it is a great thing to work into your bedtime routine.</div>

<h4>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b>Cleanse One<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-weight: normal;">This first cleanse is focussed on removing eye makeup, spf and foundation. To do this effectively look for a cleanser with a balmy or oily texture, balmy is best. This is an unusual texture but oil fights oil, it breaks through it quicker than anything else.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-weight: normal;">If you wear heavier eye makeup you might want to first use a damp cotton pad and your balmy cleanser and then balm cleanse the rest of your face. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-weight: normal;">A cleanser that is perfect for this is the Pinks Boutique Deep Cleanse Melt for combination and oily skin. If you have sensitive skin or skin that can sometimes be a little dry then opt for something hydrating like the Hydrate Deep Cleanse Melt and for more mature skin you can’t go wrong with the Anti Age Deep Cleanse Melt.</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</h4>
<h4>
Second Cleanse</h4>
<div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: normal;">In a facial this is the one where we really start to massage and you should do the same. Like your dentist says to clean your teeth for 2 mins, standing and massaging your face for 2 mins each night would be unbelievably beneficial to your skin.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: normal;">For this stage look for a cleanser that is plant oil based and avoid anything that is thin and watery as this will absorb into your skin with little benefit. Some great cleansers are the Ocha Cleanser, great for normal to dry skin, or the Lemongrass Cleanser that suits combination or oily skin.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: normal;">Once you have picked your cleanser, massage this all over face and give your skin some love!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-weight: normal;">After a few minutes remove your cleanser with warm water and your cloth or muslin. Pat your skin dry and then kick in with the rest of your routine.</span></div>
</div>
<h3>
<br />Should I double cleanse in the morning?</h3>
<div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-size: 11pt; font-weight: normal;">In the morning just one cleanse is absolutely fine,
especially when you have given your skin such a deep cleanse the night before!<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-weight: normal;">If you are looking to
get the longest life from your makeup during the day, using a balm cleanser
will help combat patchy makeup as you surface skin will be smoother!</span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-weight: normal;"><br /></span></div>
<h3>
Is there any product I should avoid?</h3>
<div>
<h4>
Wipes</h4>
<div>
One of the biggest skincare ‘no no’s I hear clients talk about is using makeup wipes. Makeup wipes not only irritate the skin they also mean you are often smearing the dirt and makeup around your face rather than removing it!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
Foaming Cleansers</h4>
<div>
Foaming cleansers are known to produce that ‘squeaky clean’ feeling, and whilst this can be appealing you need to remember that your skin should never feel squeaky clean. Your skin was never meant to feel squeaky clean. Foam is SLS (sodium Lauryl sulphate), drying, itchy, eczema enraging and just not nice to your skin.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h4>
Micellar Waters</h4>
<div>
Micellar water is the buzz word in beauty at the moment and whilst not necessarily bad for your skin this is just not greasy enough to remove your makeup or SPF.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So cleanse and cleanse again with luscious balm based and plant oil enriched products for truly clean skin – without the squeak!</div>

Harsh weather conditions and temperature extremes mean that the skin's natural moisture evaporates more easily and our natural oils become depleted. The product ranges I stock can all help to address these problems for you. If in doubt, just book a skin consultation, 20 minutes free of charge.<br />
<br />
<h2>
1. Diet</h2>
<br />
Winter diet and eating habits, generally mean an increase in carbohydrates, starchy foods and a reduction in foods providing our skin with essential oils. A rich, carbohydrate diet impacts our circulatory systems, reducing the efficiency of blood circulation and lymphatic systems. Lack of essential fatty acids in our diet means our skin is less able to retain moisture. Essential fatty acids maintain the integrity of cellular walls and allow transference of waste and water. So altogether, these systems can't bring fresh nutrition or remove toxins effectively. The result is dry, dehydrated, congested and dull skin.<br />
<br />
<h2>
2. Lack of Moisture</h2>
<br />
Skin regenerates on a monthly cycle. It sheds the dead, flattened cells that lie on its surface to make room for new, living cells to rise. If the dead cells don’t shed as quickly as they should, thick, dry skin can form. This further impairs the skin’s normal barrier function. Environmental irritants such as bacteria can then sneak in, causing inflammation.<br />
<br />
Some body parts are more prone to dryness than others, depending on their concentration of oil glands. The greatest concentrations are on the face (especially around the forehead and the nose), the chest, and the back, which all tend to have less trouble with dryness. The lower legs have few oil glands, which is why they dry out so easily.<br />
<br />
Lips don't have oil glands or a thick, protective outer layer. The lip skin is not hairy and does not have sweat glands. Therefore, it does not have the usual protection layer of sweat and body oils which keep the skin smooth, inhibit pathogens, and regulate warmth. For these reasons, the lips dry out faster and become chapped more easily.They are also constantly moisturized by saliva, then dried by breathing, which has an evaporation effect. Evaporation also dries out hands (from washing) and feet (from sweating). The thicker skin on elbows and knees has trouble retaining water, and its constant exposure to friction is also drying.<br />
<br />
So winter time brings some real challenges for our skin and we need to make adjustments in our skin routine and products.<br />
<br />
Here are a few suggestions:<br />
<ul>
<li>Increase your essential fatty acid food intake - eggs, dark green leafy vegetables, walnuts for example - sound like a yummy recipe to me, with just those 3 ingredients, just leave out a rich, creamy sauce!<br /> </li>
<li><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIinIaWmJuzBnqsct3tH2sy-RAd_N6ph79zttkWkMx0C1Q4IrP7i6NitKn5H_n3rYqTsURFhD-1d74kawlLxiJ1tb5dZCtTXOSw1xL3WHvLthWpEjW9KGlgrUMsrh8G-nz4v2Knh8wuDA/s1600/Omegas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="97" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIinIaWmJuzBnqsct3tH2sy-RAd_N6ph79zttkWkMx0C1Q4IrP7i6NitKn5H_n3rYqTsURFhD-1d74kawlLxiJ1tb5dZCtTXOSw1xL3WHvLthWpEjW9KGlgrUMsrh8G-nz4v2Knh8wuDA/s200/Omegas.jpg" width="200" /></a>Take some Omega supplements. The Advanced Nutrition Supplement range here in the salon are Skin Omega+ at £28.00.<br /> </li>
<li>Increase the moisturising step in your daily routine. Add in Environ's Super + Moisturiser, £31.<br /> </li>
<li><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0pbSOF3Ivnby66V-fo0NbuWPlqiJwXz-tKqJLhOVVsQNYZ6vrWwueAonUgSwiIZ71pSazvL05OyeLowR4oq_064hk18tP0-zkt4cvqw5qs2PXiT3ji_TraCBeS1rXdVXa8VQooU4G4Rg/s1600/Product+Combination+Picture.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0pbSOF3Ivnby66V-fo0NbuWPlqiJwXz-tKqJLhOVVsQNYZ6vrWwueAonUgSwiIZ71pSazvL05OyeLowR4oq_064hk18tP0-zkt4cvqw5qs2PXiT3ji_TraCBeS1rXdVXa8VQooU4G4Rg/s200/Product+Combination+Picture.jpeg" width="200" /></a>Change your cleanser to a rich balm like Pinks Boutique Hydrating Cleansing Balm or Environ's Youth EssentiA Hydrating Cleanser, Neal's Yard Rose Beauty Balm.<br /> </li>
<li>Top up your night time routine with a Night Balm or Hydrating Oil Capsules.<br /> </li>
<li>Start to include a serum underneath your moisturiser, e.g. Neal's Yard Frankinsence Intense Serum or Pinks Boutique Anti Ageing Serum.<br /> </li>
<li>Book a Hydrating Facial - I recommend the Environ Hydraboost Facial which uses the Focus Hydrating Serum with Hyaluronic Acid which holds up to 1000 x its own weight in water, is deeply hydrating, plumps and smoothes.<br /> </li>
<li><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmrBccNnzH4-vJ_0yeDnPd3nRZ7Onj1YeQg97A7bNzN6h90rwToebzZhRfwLBhZxadGjeQ-3yoqN1PG74UqQ2kWeLN9Ahdo6usnUjQiCzU5Clb1x0UNhurbzfZs8izH0PNxNTU-yEw4kw/s1600/LipDrink-Trio-Waterspash-Lemons-LR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; display: inline; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmrBccNnzH4-vJ_0yeDnPd3nRZ7Onj1YeQg97A7bNzN6h90rwToebzZhRfwLBhZxadGjeQ-3yoqN1PG74UqQ2kWeLN9Ahdo6usnUjQiCzU5Clb1x0UNhurbzfZs8izH0PNxNTU-yEw4kw/s200/LipDrink-Trio-Waterspash-Lemons-LR.jpg" width="150" /></a>Jane Iredale Lip Drink in Sheer, Flirt (pink), Crush (mauve) and Buff (nude) is simply the best lip balm I've come across. At £14.00 it is more expensive, but has an SPF 15 and packed with antioxidants, moisturising oils and a lovely light citrus smell. Protect your lips with this great product.<br /> </li>
<li>Bathe in bath oil and use organic shower and bath gels with no harsh chemicals that dry out the skin. Both Neal's Yard and Pinks Boutique have a great range of natural scrubs, gels and lotions to make your bathroom smell divine. My favourite? Neal's Yard Citrus Shower Gel, Pinks Boutique Sweet Orange and Nerol Scrub, finished off with Environ Vitamin A Body Oil. Then I'm good enough to eat 😉</li>

Nail it! </h2>
Increasing numbers of us are concerned about the “nasties” in traditional nail polishes. Thankfully SpaRitual allows you to have fabulous nails that are good for you and good for the planet. Their nail laquers are vegan and free of DBP, toluene, camphor, formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin. And there is no compromise on either quality or colour ranges. Everyone loves red nails at Christmas - our festive favourite is SpaRituals “Brazen”.<br />

<h2>
In the pink with body bliss treat</h2>
Like many women I want to take as much care about what I put on my body, as what I put in my body.<br />
<br />
I avoid additives and processed foods, so why would I want to put harsh chemicals onto my aging, delicate skin – not to mention the risk to the environment?<br />
<br />
One of the appeals of Ginger Tree is that the skin care and beauty ranges Kathy uses are free of such nasties. Kathy suggested the <a href="http://www.gingertreebeauty.co.uk/treatments/holistic.html" target="_blank">Pinks Boutique Body Bliss</a> – a delicious one and a half hours of top to toe pampering – as my first treatment at the salon. Pinks Boutique, founded by husband and wife Luke and Kirstie Sherriff, is inspired by their trips throughout Asia.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.pinksboutique.com/" target="_blank">Pinks Boutique</a> skincare products are natural, organic, approved by the <a href="https://www.soilassociation.org/" target="_blank">Soil Association</a> and have won a clutch of awards. Many are oils and balms smelling deliciously of rose, lemongrass and mandarin.<br />
<br />
The treatment starts with a soothing scented foot soak while I sipped a mint tea – from my favourite Pukka brand. Then I moved through to the peaceful treatment room, where Kathy makes me comfortable on her massage bed complete with memory foam mattress. There’s the option to have the bed heated, but on a warm summer’s day this wasn’t needed.<br />
<br />
The Body Bliss treatment starts with exfoliation of my upper back using Rosehip Face and Body Scrub followed by a Rose, Clay and Rosehip Mask. Then Kathy moisturises and massages with Rose Face and Body Balm, and Rose and Jojoba Face and Body. My much-neglected upper back soaks up these anti-aging products, designed for dry and sensitive skins, like a sponge.<br />
<br />
An hour long facial follows, using many of the same products. Kathy decides that my face doesn’t need exfoliating after cleansing with the amazing Anti Aging Deep Cleansing Melt – a luxury cleansing balm, which I will be buying. Balm and oil are massaged into my face and décolletage following the Rose, Clay and Rosehip Mask.<br />
<br />
If you have this treatment don’t plan a lunch date afterwards because the next stage is a superb head massage using oil. I had to go straight home and wash my hair as Kathy really does get down to the roots. It’s worth it for the benefits though – which had the added bonus of conditioning my hair, as well being a great stress reducer.<br />
<br />
Body Bliss includes a leg or arm and hand massage – I opted for the latter. Kathy’s experience really shows in her massage – firm, but calming.<br />
<br />
The wonderful scents of the Pinks Boutique’s <a href="http://www.gingertreebeauty.co.uk/products/pinks_boutique.html" target="_blank">products </a>lingered for the rest of the day. They do candles and room spray too, which would make great birthday or Christmas gifts.<br />
<br />
Days after my Body Bliss experience my skin is still glowing and I have worn very little makeup - just a bit of concealer. There’s no doubt that my skin loves Pinks Boutique. I think it may be an expensive autumn when I overhaul my skincare!Kathy Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10676609834615714720noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706489420822036015.post-7480598682638201682016-05-09T08:22:00.003+01:002016-05-09T08:24:49.855+01:00Review of the Environ Purifying FacialI was lucky enough to experience an Environ Purifying facial with Kathy a few weeks ago. I am no stranger to facials and normally enjoy a more traditional facial using Pinks Boutique products but Kathy encouraged me to try something new, so I did!
<br />
<br />
When doing blogs for Kathy before I have made no attempt to hide the fact that I am very driven by smell and I believed that an Environ facial would be exactly the same as a normal facial, but without all of the floral smells. I was very wrong.
<br />
<br />
The Environ Purifying facial brings skincare bang up to date and into the 21st century. I am not a scientific person (I failed my A-level in Biology) so I am not even going to try and attempt to explain the process behind the facial, but I was very impressed by the scientific knowledge that had gone into producing a treatment tailored to plump up the skin and increase the moisture in the skin using a variety of techniques.
<br />
<br />
Kathy felt that my skin looked a little congested and dull and suggested the Purifying Facial to deeply cleanse and steralise my skin. So whilst this treatment is great for acne and serious problematic skins, it is also useful for skins that are getting slightly spotty.<br />

<br />
One part of the facial which I strangely enjoyed was when Kathy applied a product that looked like icing that you would normally put on a cake! Kathy left my nostrils free but applied this product over my entire face including my eye sockets. This icing like mixture then dried and hardened which was an extremely unusual feeling and eventually made a rubbery mould of my face. I can see why Kathy said that some people had asked to take their moulds home, it was fascinating!<br />
<br />
Whilst the mask is on iontophoresis current is put through the mask to increase the penetration of the serums used deep into the dermis of the skin. This is one of the things that makes an Environ facial so effective. Sound waves are also used during the first part of the facial to create temporary cavities in the skin, allowing the products to seep deep into the skin. I have never experienced sound waves on my face and was a little apprehensive as to how it would feel, but I could honestly not feel a thing! It was unusual to not be able to open your eyes because of the face mould over them, but that was the only odd part of the experience.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">After the facial my skin felt brighter and plumper.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
After the facial, my face felt noticeably different. I felt like my cheek muscles had been dramatically lifted (I didn’t even know they needed that!) The most visible difference though was the disappearance of fine lines around my eyes and a smoother forehead. I don’t mind fine lines at all, I laugh a lot, but it was extremely impressive to see my eye crinkles completely disappeared after just one treatment!<br />

Perhaps the colour is fading as we age, or the hairs are becoming sparser. Or maybe you’ve been the victim of over plucking in the past.<br />
<br />
There are lots of products in the Jane Iredale range to help with brows:<br />
<br />
Clear Brow Fit Gel, Brow Gel in 3 colours, Liner Pencil in Taupe, Basic Brown, Brown/Black, Grey, Black and an updated brow kit – Great Shape Eyebrow Kit in Brunette and Blonde.<br />
<br />
The Jane Iredale Great Shape Eyebrow Kit includes a specially designed dual ended applicator as well as a light weight transparent botanical brow wax that is perfect for taming stray hairs without leaving a sticky residue. The highly pigmented powders can be used to create a soft and natural brow shape, easily filling in any areas that may look sparse without appearing too heavy. Equally you can build up the colour and apply the wax before the powder to create a denser, fuller look. The powders are also water resistant, meaning even if the weather doesn’t hold up, your eyebrows will. The powders are pigmented enough to cover greys and create a personalized shade.<br />
<br />
Here’s just one brow beauty tip from Jane Iredale:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz7VeOt9GXGefou0BOTNss_L4TuVALzNVm6Gz3TYSCabywTUVJHcNZJ-ORFKMPJ8jyb5Ebj0SIXML8GuS2DQkExvHl8-AMjl-uBunOMkpk9xOJQvXkmixPBAHYRJushJ4q1syXTrKhZ7s/s1600/brows.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjz7VeOt9GXGefou0BOTNss_L4TuVALzNVm6Gz3TYSCabywTUVJHcNZJ-ORFKMPJ8jyb5Ebj0SIXML8GuS2DQkExvHl8-AMjl-uBunOMkpk9xOJQvXkmixPBAHYRJushJ4q1syXTrKhZ7s/s320/brows.jpg" width="301" /></a></div>
For trending thick, bold brows begin by using Clear Brow Fix Gel to brush your brow hairs up, this will help create fullness. Mix the wax portion and the powder portion of your GreatShape Eyebrow Kit, this will create a coloured waxy pomade that will allow you to draw sharp lines while keeping your brows looking soft. Starting on the underside of your brow, underline your brow with an angled brush. With the pigment that is left from the line, begin to blend upwards in tiny strokes. Repeat this same technique on the topside of the brow to make it bold. To create a more stand out brow, choose a concealer about a shade or two lighter than your skin tone and use the Camouflage Brush to clean underneath your brow and make it more defined.<br />
<br />
The brow gels are £14.00, the kit is £26.00, pencils are £13. All of these items are long lasting and you use a small amount, so they are long lasting representing a fantastic investment towards creating the perfect brows to frame your face.<br />
<br />

The last few posts have talked about lips and the history of lipstick, we looked at how lipstick tricks have changed from the early lip paints used by the Egyptians to the gorgeous red toned lipsticks worn by women in the 30’s.<br />
<br />
This month I’d like us to focus on another important part of any beauty routine – our eyebrows. Eyebrows are the cheekbones of the eye, they frame the eye, give definition to the face, emphasise our emotions when communicating via facial expression and they keep the sweat out of our eyes. Practical as well as pretty!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwAgqpTOmZ8oLytS4T7X6lvapU0JF3Db2RwJxz0aGVV_Zhig22n4oJUIed0-WHUjDnlz7teCAgbZ-ow3QWESDCPfDnyBfTTghLMjfyP4yd_Yqs-nDt71LgGmvFdjrkQeJwoq_t_AG3Two/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwAgqpTOmZ8oLytS4T7X6lvapU0JF3Db2RwJxz0aGVV_Zhig22n4oJUIed0-WHUjDnlz7teCAgbZ-ow3QWESDCPfDnyBfTTghLMjfyP4yd_Yqs-nDt71LgGmvFdjrkQeJwoq_t_AG3Two/s200/1.png" width="200" /></a>Let’s look at how trends have changed (and even come full circle) and what you can do to achieve the perfect eyebrows to suit your mood, style and face shape.<br />
<br />
In 3500 BC, Egyptian women, as with lipstick, pioneered another make up movement – bold eyebrows. Make up was worn by Egyptian men and women for its supernatural powers, with particular emphasis on eye makeup. The popular heavily lined eye look was won in homage to their god Horus and was completed by applying black oxide substances to their brows to create an elongated and arched shape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6eeLhMDs40z1jgxM2riS_iMPppV_Ie-KAwiGUcZ2H5n33Uh3KzNTmPYfpAhgptnY7UdTO6-jvhUTpedO_S30_miaRZZJRHEbB1m-CbygUOZSFeVtqOnPa9wvCiIMaT9KvtX5-6OaZaug/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="187" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6eeLhMDs40z1jgxM2riS_iMPppV_Ie-KAwiGUcZ2H5n33Uh3KzNTmPYfpAhgptnY7UdTO6-jvhUTpedO_S30_miaRZZJRHEbB1m-CbygUOZSFeVtqOnPa9wvCiIMaT9KvtX5-6OaZaug/s200/2.png" width="200" /></a></div>
By 753 BC, the Ancient Romans began experimenting with their brow styles and the preferred look of the day was the unibrow!!!! Far from being cause to call in for an emergency waxing appointment at Ginger Tree, the unibrow was considered to be a beautiful trait.<br />
<br />
1066 and all that and the beginning of the Middle Ages brought a dramatic shift in eyebrow trends. Medieval women wanted to emphasise their foreheads and plucked their eyebrows heavily to create thin arches. Some went so far as to dye their eyebrows with a red tint in an attempt to emulate Queen Elizabeth I’s eyebrows.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA21rJdvOFzkAtxq0rAaPDW_OUoH9wl5e7XYCg6a_5SO7i_UcBc6XHpGraIrhEQ3_oRukwoC8hVRfTeOE0LC7nsAJSEo5H8RO9HhseMnGtCuMAWa1gPTWLKE1EhofkiEZdtKo4ncHGo2c/s1600/3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjA21rJdvOFzkAtxq0rAaPDW_OUoH9wl5e7XYCg6a_5SO7i_UcBc6XHpGraIrhEQ3_oRukwoC8hVRfTeOE0LC7nsAJSEo5H8RO9HhseMnGtCuMAWa1gPTWLKE1EhofkiEZdtKo4ncHGo2c/s200/3.png" width="200" /></a></div>
As with many fashion trends, a celebrity led the way in the 1920’s. Her name was Clara Bow and she was a silent film actress. The eyebrow was made of a thin arch and extended beyond the corner of the eye creating a striking look. This era was also the first time cosmetic companies made cosmetics specifically designed for the eyebrow and the stylish women of the day took full advantage.<br />
<br />
The 1940’s saw a switch in brow trends towards heavier more natural looking brow shape. The prominent arch was still in vogue, but the brow was thicker. Grace Kelly the famous actress and later Princess of Monaco would be the perfect example of this style.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH02CLGBan0oPJKK9G_onAy_msAA0NsX3Yz-bDTOi4PAmT9ZbtdIg1UeHF2d55n9GbM72h0ccPoFRbiGgmfegj0yBTTS8sSepZenU7068smuM6WmID1cPU_sB15HjV0EEusLPtHvtA2sE/s1600/4.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="99" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhH02CLGBan0oPJKK9G_onAy_msAA0NsX3Yz-bDTOi4PAmT9ZbtdIg1UeHF2d55n9GbM72h0ccPoFRbiGgmfegj0yBTTS8sSepZenU7068smuM6WmID1cPU_sB15HjV0EEusLPtHvtA2sE/s200/4.png" width="200" /></a></div>
The 1960’s brought a stronger, bolder look with heavy use of eyebrow pencil. Think of the actress Sophia Loren. Did you know she removed her own eyebrows completely then pencilled in bolder, thicker brows.<br />
<br />
The 1990’s we went back to thinner brows, think Kate Moss and Drew Barrymore, but we also started to see the emergence of the ‘Scouse Brow’ and new cosmetic products and treatments sprung up. In recent times ‘The HD Brow’ has been a very popular treatment, giving bold, defined eyebrows, although some think they are overdone, but it’s certainly helped to bring attention to eyebrow make up and styling. So we have come full circle from the Egyptian bold brow to the ‘Scouse Brow’.<br />
<br />

Perhaps you’re not so much a follower of fashion, but current trends have made you think about your eyebrows. When deciding on your eyebrows, it’s important to consider your face shape, bone structure and age. The next blog will talk about this specifically and give you hints and tips on how to use the latest brow kit from Jane Iredale Mineral Make up – The Great Shape Eyebrow Kit.

Now I am not normally one for fake tan but when going on holiday I like to try and have a base layer of colour so I don’t feel so white on the beach! Earlier this year I went on a trip of a lifetime to Koh Samui in Thailand. Two of my beautiful best friends were getting married on a beach and we would be there for a 10 day holiday exploring the island.<br />
<br />
I contacted Kathy asking what she would recommend for a base tan, I have had dodgy spray tans in the past and I am very good at making my legs stripey at home with self-tan so I needed an alternative.<br />
<br />
Kathy recommended Tantasia and made said that it doesn’t streak or make you look orange! To be honest I wasn’t expecting that to be true, but I was very pleasantly surprised.
<br />
<br />
I started using the product the day before my trip and the results were almost instant. I wouldn’t say that this is a gradual tanner, in fact the catch line is ‘tint today and tan tomorrow’ which is very true. By the time I was catching the 14-hour flight on the second day of using this product I was extremely happy with the colour on my legs and Dan my partner even noticed! Another bonus of this product was that it didn’t even smell like fake tan, which is normally a huge clue that you aren’t naturally a bronzed goddess! <br />
<br />
I would definitely use this product again and it will be perfect for weddings and special occasions. I can’t believe that at the age of 28 I have finally found a streak free self-tanner, where has this been all my life?!<br />

But, they are very important when it comes to healthy skin. What are they and what do they do?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002TZ3CN6/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWsE6E0Ms2MrQh4ep1fKK4411VdVZTtBxh3C9NqJaO8fUqYYpWg2i4LR0oFdwEIjEr7dFVOjNt-Sn8FAKPmSaUevJUUqdjxx2l5qXOBZcMsqlRr8DnhndNTMV6n6Srl5DtEvxIEvyY8sU/s320/51wA-0T2tbL._SY344_BO1%252C204%252C203%252C200_.jpg" width="209" /></a></div>
Patrick Holford, the nutritionalist, in his book The Optimum Nutrition Bible heads his chapter up “Antioxidants – the Power of Prevention”. Antioxidants slow down or prevent damage to our cells called oxidative damage. Oxidative damage occurs when the skin is exposed to light, pollution, stress, illness, smoking, burning petrol to create exhaust fumes, frying or barbecuing food and normal body processes. All of these listed situations create free radicals which lead to oxidative damage and antioxidants disarm the free radicals.<br />
<br />
Oxidative damage is key to the breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin – these are the two fibres responsible for keeping the skin plump and firm – age spots which can have the potential to become more serious.<br />
<br />
As antioxidants can help to fight oxidative damage it makes sense to not only to take them in supplement form but also for them to be in our skincare products, thereby absorbing the free radical damage.<br />
<br />
The main antioxidants are Vitamins A, C and E plus betacarotene, the precursor of vitamin A that is found in fruit and vegetables. Other antioxidants used in skincare and Jane Iredale makeup are green tea, coenzyme Q10, grape seed extracts, resveratrol, soya bean sterols, niacinamide, pomegranate, idebenone, turmeric and superoxide dismutase.<br />
<br />
Whilst some products may contain some of these ingredients, it is thought that a mix of antioxidants is best as they have different benefits. For example, Vitamin C is effective against ozone, grape seed extracts are effective against pollution and Vitamin E is effective against UVA rays.<br />
Antioxidants deteriorate if they are exposed to sunlight and oxygen, so it’s important that they are packaged in opaque, pump only containers. Use them morning and night, ensure they are included in your diet and supplements.<br />
<br />
All skincare ranges at Ginger Tree – Environ, Pinks Boutique and Neal’s Yard include antioxidants in their products.Kathy Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10676609834615714720noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706489420822036015.post-33682908958494088182016-03-18T10:01:00.000+00:002016-03-18T10:01:39.347+00:00CACI Review"This was a first time for me - I had not experienced CACI before, although I have had what I would call 'machine intervention' facials rather than the traditional 'hands on' facials in the past.<br />
<br />
I hadn't expected it to be, but it was a very relaxing experience, no sensation or 'clicking' or 'fizzing' of electrical pulses. The rollers & probes were comfortable & once I got used to the sensation of targeted micro massaging, it was rather pleasant.<br />
<br />
After just this one session I could see instant results - yes honestly, particularly on the 'apples' of my cheeks & under my jawline! Went straight to school pick up & it was immediately noticed by a few of the other Mum's who wanted to know what I'd been up to as I looked fantastic! I would most definitely go for the full 10 sessions just based on the results of one! Quite amazing & truly 'uplifting'."Kathy Scotthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10676609834615714720noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1706489420822036015.post-57710468089968108302016-03-07T15:06:00.001+00:002016-03-07T15:06:10.114+00:00Lips part 3So regular readers, I’ve talked about how to care for your lips and started to look at the history of lipstick. Here’s the next history info blog….1900s to the present day. I find the history of make up fascinating and this blog takes in my mother’s youth during WW2, I just love the pictures of her with her red lipstick that she shared with her 4 sisters!

‘By 1915 lipstick was being widely commercially produced and was sold in cylinder metal containers. These containers were invented by Maurice Levy. To move the lipstick up the case you had to slide a lever on the tube.

In 1923 (the year my mum was born) the swivel-up lipstick was created by James Bruce Mason Jr. Lipstick became more and more popular due to the evolution of the cinema and film, where actresses would be seen with a fully make up look. In the late 1940s, Hazel Bishop, an organic chemist, created the first long lasting lipstick, which was named No Smear Lipstick.

In the 1920s a deep red was very popular and flapper girls would wear lipstick to symbolize their independence. (See more about this in the link below). In the 1930s Elizabeth Arden introduced new lipstick colours and inspired other make up companies to create a variety of shades. In the 40s lipstick was considered a morale booster during the war, due to it being inexpensive to make. A brand name Gala introduced a pale shimmery lipstick in the 50s and later Max Factor created a popular lipstick called Strawberry Meringue, colours then began being made in lavender, pale pink, white and peach, providing more neutral shades for teens. Red remained popular still, as film stars continued to opt for a bolder make up look.
<br />
Later in the 20th Century technologies advanced and ‘mood’ lipsticks were introduced, that were supposed to change colour when applied depending on the wearers’ mood. In the 90s semi-matte finish lipsticks were introduced, but towards the end of the 90s pearl shades in a shiny finish came into fashion.’

And above is an advert from the 1930s that brings us full circle to my first article about caring for your lips – not sure I fancy this product though!

Next time, a bit more about today’s lipsticks and trends.<br />
